Child Custody

Springfield, Illinois, Child Custody Attorneys

Custody — Visitation — Mediation

Few issues are as contentious in divorce as child custody agreements. A couple who can no longer get along is now asked to create harmonious child custody arrangements which serve the best interests of the children and are workable by both parents.

At the law firm of Feldman, Wasser, Draper & Cox, we understand how difficult that is. Contact our family law attorneys today to learn more about how primary custody and joint custody may shape your parenting plan. We have been providing skilled counsel to spouses seeking divorce since 1987.

Our primary goal is to provide you with the information and support you need to make decisions you can live with, including:

The 900 Series Rules to Promote Non-Disruptive Child Custody

According to the Supreme Court, families must attempt to negotiate child custody arrangements that are least disrupting to the family, especially the children. Mediation is required. Custody arrangements hinge on what is best for the child. A timid child, for example, may be more comfortable staying put in one household, as opposed to living half the time with mom and half the time with dad.

Our family law attorneys are both certified mediators and serve as client counsel in mediation. In mediation, both spouses sit down with a neutral mediator, usually an attorney, who helps them find common ground to work out child custody issues, including time sharing and creating a parenting plan. The mediator cannot give legal advice, so each spouse retains separate counsel to look out for his or her interests.

Our goal is to work out child custody and child support issues as amicably as possible. If mediation fails, however, we are prepared to fight for a fair resolution through litigation.
